Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is a gold-standard, evidence-based approach to treating opioid use disorder. It combines the use of FDA-approved medications—such as methadone, buprenorphine (Suboxone), and naltrexone (Vivitrol)—with counseling and behavioral therapies.

MAT helps to:

  • Reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings
  • Improve physical and emotional stability
  • Support long-term recovery and relapse prevention
  • Enhance overall quality of life

Research consistently shows that MAT is safe and effective when provided as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

Medications We Use

At Bethesda Treatment and Recovery Center, our medical team tailors your medication plan based on your unique needs, medical history, and recovery goals.

Methadone

Methadone is a long-acting synthetic opioid that has been used for decades to treat opioid dependence. It helps reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms by binding to opioid receptors in a slow, steady way—allowing individuals to regain stability without experiencing the highs and lows of opioid misuse.

Buprenorphine (Suboxone)

Suboxone is a combination of buprenorphine and naloxone. It works by partially activating opioid receptors to relieve withdrawal symptoms and cravings while lowering the risk of misuse. Naloxone helps prevent misuse by blocking the effects of opioids if the medication is injected.

Naltrexone (Vivitrol)

Naltrexone is a non-opioid medication that blocks the euphoric effects of opioids. It’s typically used after detox and is especially effective for relapse prevention. Vivitrol is the extended-release injectable form, administered once a month.

Intake Process

How to get started?

At Bethesda Treatment and Recovery Center, we understand that opioid addiction often goes hand-in-hand with other mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). That’s why our intake process begins with a comprehensive assessment by our medical team, which includes a physician, and a counselor trained in addiction and co-occuring disorders.

During this process, we’ll work closely with you to develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. We’ll ask questions about your medical history, substance use, and any co-occurring mental health concerns to ensure we recommend the most appropriate and effective care.

We will also conduct:

  • Physical examinations
  • Laboratory tests
  • Other health assessments

These steps help us build a clear picture of your overall well-being so we can support your recovery holistically.

Confidentiality is a top priority.
All information you share during intake is protected by law and kept strictly confidential. We never release patient information without your explicit consent.
